Credit: DH LovelifeNeil Young has announced plans to release a new archival Crazy Horse concert album and/or video titled Rust Bucket via his Neil Young Archives website in early 2020.

In a new post on the website, Young reveals that the release is “in final production,” and will be available “in three sets and as an entire show.”

“Viewing the first set time with [longtime studio collaborator] J. Hanlon‘s great sound mixes added it, I think this has to be one of my all-time favorite archives performances!” he writes. “It may be a pinnacle for Crazy Horse!”

Neil adds that Neil Young Archives subscribers will be able to check out some “previous selections from that first set” at the website “very early in January 2020.”

While Young doesn’t share details about the concert in the new message, reliable fan site Thrashers Wheat reported back in September that Neil had written in a subscribers-only post about a newly rediscovered concert film and recording dubbed “WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET” that documented a November 1990 show he played with Crazy Horse at the Catalyst club in Santa Cruz, California.

Young wrote that the film was directed and produced by the late L.A. Johnson, who frequently worked with Neil on movie projects. He also shared that the concerts featured three sets, while gushing, “The energy captured in this show is totally captivating and personal; the most intimate of any captured Crazy Horse performance to date.”

Stay tuned for more info about Rust Bucket.
