Credit: Dave HoganBefore The Rolling Stones hit the road earlier this year on their No Filter tour of North America, the band members revealed that they were working on a long-awaited new studio album. Now, guitarist Ronnie Wood reports that the legendary rockers are back at work on the project and are hoping to have it ready for release next year.

In an exclusive interview with U.K.’s The Sun, Wood says, “The new album is like a puzzle, we still have to put the missing pieces together. We hope to release it in 2020 and then continue our world tour.”

Back in March, Keith Richards told The Sun, “We’ve got the first bits [of the album] done and I’m looking forward to getting back in [the studio] after [the No Filter] tour.”

The Stones’ No Filter trek ran from late June to late August, the start of which was delayed several weeks because Mick Jagger underwent a heart-valve procedure. The singer made a quick recovery and has been given a clean bill of health.

The Rolling Stones’ most recent studio album was the blues covers collection Blue & Lonesome, which was released in December 2016, while the band’s last collection of new original tunes was 2005’s A Bigger Bang.
