The Lakeshore Public Schools Board of Education is looking to fill a vacancy now that Trustee Kevin Bushu is stepping down.

Speaking at a meeting this week, trustees thanked Bushu for his 15 years of service, not only as a school board member, but in countless roles throughout the community. Lakeshore Superintendent Greg Eding said when he first started out as the superintendent, Bushu was a great help to him.

Kevin’s also just a Lakeshore person and loves our community and does amazing work for all of the students at Lakeshore,” Eding said.

Bushu has to resign because he and his wife are moving into a home just outside the district. He thanked the school staff and students.

When I look back on my time here, at the end of the day, that was always the lens I tried to look through,” Bushu said. “During those tough times, the COVID and budgets and everything that we’ve been through over my 15 years, that was always the lens I came back to.  Is this the right thing for the district for all students?”

Bushu said he and his wife moved to the area with a choice of living in St. Joseph or Lakeshore, and they picked Lakeshore. He said it’s a decision he’s never regretted.

The district is taking applications from those interested in serving out the remainder of Bushu’s term, which expires in 2026. You can find the application at the Lakeshore website. They’re due by 3 p.m. Friday.
