Detroit Tigers fans will get a chance to try out some of the new items on the menu when the Tigers play their home opener on April 5.

Officials with Comerica Park this week gave the public a chance to try out some of that food, which included creations from Slow’s Barbecue, the Detroit Water Ice Factory, and SmashBurger.

Michigan News Network caught up with Chef Mark Szubeczak and asked when the planning begins for what items will be added to the Comerica Park menu.

During the season, at the end of the season, all the time,” Szubeczak said. “All the time, we’re practicing and the chefs are putting ideas together. We’re always researching. But in the off season, we’re testing and bringing it to life.”

In addition, officials also unveiled the new scoreboard at Comerica Park. It’s 15,688 square feet, making it the biggest scoreboard in the American League and the second largest scoreboard in all of Major League Baseball.
