Work resumes Monday on a Michigan Department of Transportation project to rebuild more than 3.5 miles of M-40 in Van Buren County.

MDOT says it’s working on M-40 from South Lagrave Street in Paw Paw to 72nd Avenue in Lawton. This is the final year of the two-year, $10.1 million project, and it will require the total closure of M-40 in Lawton.

The project started last year with crews repaving and rebuilding M-40, making drainage improvements, and rebuilding concrete curb and gutter markings.

This year, crews will return to continue rebuilding M-40 from Union Street to 72nd Avenue. The work will include rebuilding concrete curbs and gutters, culvert replacement, sanitary sewer relocation, streetscaping, and lighting.

With M-40 closed in Lawton, a detour will be posted. The project is expected to wrap up in August.
