There will be some contested primaries for several countywide offices in Berrien County this August.

Speaking Thursday, Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler announced she’s seeking a new position.

It is with great pride that I announce my candidacy for the position of County Commissioner for the 12th District,” Tyler said. “I have been working for 30 years with the county in several positions, but my last 12 as county clerk has given me a great insight into the day-to-day operations of the county.”

District 12 is represented by Commissioner Michael Majerek, who will face Tyler in the Republican primary.

Majerek isn’t the only commissioner having a primary opponent. Commissioner Jon Hinkelman is being challenged by Michelle Tooker, Commissioner Julie Wuerfel is being challenged by Christopher Peddie, Commissioner Bob Harrison is being challenged by Richard McCoy, and Commissioner Mac Elliott is being challenged by Eugene Castro.

All are Republicans.

Meanwhile, there are four Republicans running for Berrien County Sheriff. They are Chuck Heit, Richard Briand, Roger Johnson, and Jason Long.

Treasurer Shelly Weich is being challenged by Margaret Fife.

Berrien County Drain Commissioner Christopher Quattrin faces challenges by Mark Kreiger and George McManus.

Once again, all of the above candidates are Republicans.
