A Paw Paw man is dead following a motorcycle crash on Saturday in Van Buren County.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were sent to the scene in the 49,000 block of County Road 653 in Antwerp Township around 10:15 p.m.

Deputies determined a 47-year-old Paw Paw man had been southbound on CR 653 when the motorcycle drifted off the edge of the road and onto the shoulder. The rider then hit a mailbox, which ejected him from the motorcycle.

The rider was not wearing a helmet and was found unresponsive at the scene. He was taken to Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo and later died.

The crash remains under investigation.
