A healthy died is critical for a pregnant woman and her growing fetus.

Studies show that the risk of pre-term birth drop by 50% when a woman is on a Mediterranean diet. Dr. Kurt Wharton is the chief of women’s critical care programs at Corewell Health-Beaumont and told us more.

A healthy diet makes all the difference in the world,” Wharton said. “We look at so many possible complications in pregnancy and more often than not, they’re related to diet. We see an obesity epidemic across the country, and that includes pregnant women.”

Wharton says a woman who is obese has a greater chance of delivering a baby who is obese, and if it’s a girl, it could affect the next generation as well.
