A memorial for fallen police officers was held at the Michigan Capitol Monday night.

Hundreds of people from across the state came together to remember Michigan’s law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Police Week Michigan Chair Amy Hawkins told us more.

The majority of Americans, majority of Michiganders, love and value law enforcement,” Hawkins said. “But oftentimes we don’t know as citizens, as civilians, what to do or how to demonstrate support. So, with the launch of our nonprofit, people can learn more at PoliceWeekMichigan.com.”

The official Police Week begins next Sunday. It was started by John F. Kennedy in 1962 out of his desire to acknowledge and demonstrate appreciation to America’s Law Enforcement.
