A Lifesaving Award has been given to a deputy with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department for his efforts to help a woman in medical distress this year.

Berrien County Undersheriff Greg Sanders told county commissioners Thursday Deputy Justin Goff responded to a call about a woman in cardiac arrest in Watervliet Township on March 14. He got there in two minutes and used an AED on the woman.

Hooking up the AED, shocking that heart back to a normal rhythm, getting CPR done, that he saved her life and they expected her to make a full recovery,” Sanders said.

Sanders said Goff’s actions stabilized the woman while more advanced medical help was on the way. Doctors at the hospital told the sheriff’s department the woman may have died without Goff’s intervention.

Goff is assigned to the Watervliet Township area.
