Several organizations in Michigan are concerned about the State Supreme Court ruling in favor of phasing out the minimum wage for tipped workers so all workers would have the same minimum wage.
Michigan Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Business Advocacy Wendy Block says the state Legislature can lessen the impact on employers and workers.
“They do have the opportunity to reopen these acts, which previously were ballot proposals, that now will become law,” Block said. “So they have the opportunity to open those acts again and to amend them as they see fit and if we can come to an agreement on what that looks like.”
If things stay as they are, Block expects many restaurants will go out of business with the higher costs.
