An open house will be held this coming week for the public to learn more about the effort to restart the Palisades nuclear power plant.

Holtec International spokesperson Nick Culp tells us the company aims to have the plant back online by the fourth quarter of 2025, and naturally, people have questions.

People are curious about the work,” Culp said. “This is a historic thing happening right here in Southwest Michigan. They want to know what that entails from a scheduling process, where we stand in the process, what milestones are still ahead.”

Culp says the open house is a chance for anyone with questions to get answers directly from Holtec staff.

We will have members of our site leadership team there, as well as plant subject matter experts to talk with members of the public about current activities at the site to bring the plant back online.”

This is the second open house Holtec has held regarding its Palisades plans. Culp says the first open house, held earlier this year, attracted a good crowd as people asked about the timeline for the restart, safety questions, and employment opportunities. He notes Holtec has so far hired more than 300 people for Palisades, but it’s still looking to fill a couple of hundred additional positions.

The open house will be next Wednesday, December 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Palisades Joint Information Center on West Main Street in Benton Harbor.
